Affandi's House

As part of the Affandi Museum complex, Affandi built a house on stilts as his residence, still shaped like a banana leaf with the main pillar made of concrete and some of it made of carved wood. The house is made of wood with a palm leaf roof.

The top floor was once Affandi’s private room, while the bottom floor was used as a living room and garage.

Currently, the former house functions as an Attic Café for visitors who want to relax while enjoying culinary delights.

Family Area

This building follows the basic shape of the Affandi building with the concept of a banana leaf cut in half in the middle. At first Affandi designed this building exactly the same as other buildings, namely by first making a model/miniature from clay, and from there the workers would create the actual shape with direct supervision by Affandi himself. Part of this building is designed as 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. These 3 rooms were built for Affandi’s children from his second wife ‘Rubiyem’ when they were still small. When they grow up and have their own household, these rooms become a kind of guest house for the family. At the end of his life, when Affandi was sick and died, he stayed overnight in one of these rooms (the one in the middle). Maryati Likewise, even though she already had a private room in the traditional cart, after Affandi died, Maryati chose to live in the middle room too. Affandi and Maryati both died in the same room.

Prayer room cart

A traditional cart (gerobag) has been modified into a room equipped with a kitchen and toilet, built by Affandi at the request of his wife Maryati. Usually he uses a traditional cart to rest in the afternoon. After Maryati died in 1991, this cart functioned as a prayer room for the family and also for visitors.

Grave

Affandi died on May 23 1990. For his final resting place, Affandi chose a place between the first and second galleries, next to his wife, surrounded by all his works of art.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
