The Affandi Museum is a collection of artworks by the Indonesian painting maestro, Affandi. Located at Jalan Laksda Adisucipto No. 167, Yogyakarta, this museum sits on the main road connecting Yogyakarta and Solo, on the west bank of the Gajahwong River. The unique building was designed by Affandi himself, featuring a roof that resembles a banana leaf and surrounded by various trees and flowers. Construction was completed in 1962, and it was inaugurated on December 15, 1973, by the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Fuad Hasan.

In addition to the three main buildings, the Affandi Museum also offers a serene garden with shady trees and a site featuring Affandi’s bedroom on the top floor of the attic building or stilt house. There is also “Café Loteng” below, serving as a resting place for visitors. At Café Loteng, visitors can exchange their entrance tickets for soft drinks or hot drinks and purchase various souvenirs at the Affandi Museum Artshop.

The most valuable asset of this museum is the illustrious name of the Maestro, Affandi. Affandi’s name exudes an extraordinary image as a world-renowned master born in Indonesia. The reputation he built since the 1940s, through solo and group exhibitions in Indonesia and 15 other countries, has established his significant role in the history of art in Indonesia and Asia.

In addition to his own works, Affandi also collected works by other artists, including paintings, sculptures, and statues. This collection features works by renowned Indonesian artists such as Basoeki Abdullah, S. Sudjojono, Nyoman Tjokot, Kartono Yudhokusumo, Kartika, and others.
